Create a Custom Google+ URL

Most websites make it extremely easy to clean up your URL. Almost all social media sites immediately allow you to personalize it so people can easily find you. I am no massive expert, but why Google+ does not do the same thing absolutely baffles me….

Go to this website:

http://gplus.to/

And follow the simple steps.

1) Go to your Google+ Profile and ONLY copy the #’s as seen below:

** Mine was a bit different **

https://plus.google.com/u/0/101644235748052060179/posts?hl=en

  • ONLY COPY #’s

2) Choose a Nickname (I tend to keep it as simple as possible)

3) Input them into the fields and click ADD

** The nickname you chose COULD be taken, it will prompt you for another nickname if that is the case **

It’s that easy!

Granted, it could be much simpler….. But hey, there it is!

Keep in mind. This cleaned up URL ONLY redirects people to your Google+ Profile. It does not REPLACE the messy URL, it’s merely for aesthetic purposes when sending links to family, friends, followers, etc.

What would it take to BEAT Apple?

Apple recently announced their revenue and net profit.

Revenue jumped from $24.7 billion to $39.2 billion.

Net Profit grew from $6 billion to $11.6 billion.

  • International sales accounted for 64% of the quarters revenue ($25.08 billion)

Are you a supporter? Or a hater?

Do you want to know HOW you can BEAT Apple? Here are a few NOT SO EASY steps to take…

  1. LEAD - Do NOT follow. Do not go after Apple. You will lose. They take precise steps to keep ahead of the competition. The iPod to iPhone to iPad - what’s next?
  2. Focus on things Apple does not have. Apple has a powerful platform, but it is far from perfect. Find their weaknesses and strike! (Subscriptions Services and non-comprehensive video selection)
  3. Solve a problem. Find an issue within todays society and create a product that will solve that problem. Easier said than done!
  4. Do whatever it takes. Sometimes crazy moves are needed. Steve Jobs eliminated the iPod Mini (the most popular music device at the time) and replaced it with the iPod Nano, this grew in popularity and resulted in great success. However, an insanely risky move.
  5. Strike NOW! It’s been over 2 years since Apple has introduced a ‘game changing’ product (iPad). Now that Steve Jobs is gone - can they do it again? Or is there more room for competition? IE. YOU!

It’s Back. Running Smoothly. Play Today!

Almost flawless, this is one creation I found online..

This application is amazing. Lots of fun, try it out!

Approximately 2 weeks ago the unexpected popularity crashed the servers. It was down for almost a week - but it is now back up and running very smoothly. Incredibox chose to join social networking (specifically Facebook) to keep the public informed of it’s troubles. Almost each day, during the crash, they would post an update explaining the problem and when they hope to have it back up and running.

Here’s the link. Start jamming!

Coca Cola - Hug me for a Coke!

Don’t have change? Why not hug your way to quenching your thirst!

Yes, this actually exists!

In Singapore, this Coca Cola Vending Machine has drawn in a lot of attention, simply hug the gigantic machine and await your refreshing beverage!

Social Media

Imagined if this existed?

What is your opinion on Social Media? Is it around to stay - or is just a matter of time a similar SOPA is passed.

Recently, CISPA (Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act) has been created and is now the next obstacle social media networking sites need to address and deal with.

What forums do you use? Twitter is my personal favourite - this is actually quite accurate!!

April Fools Day is Approaching….

The tradition of “fooling” people on April 1st has become a tradition, even in the workplace!

Here is an example of a major corporation, GOOGLE, fooling the public. This was sent out virally March 30th 2011. It confused many and made everyone laugh.

Need some ideas for a simple prank? Here are my favourites!

  • Tricky Coin: Glue a quarter/dollar/toonie to the ground. Watch as people try to pick it up.
  • Saran Wrap Seat: Carefully tape saran wrap over the toilet seat. You can imagine.
  • A Rainy Day: IF ITS RAINING - put confetti in their umbrella!
  • Door Ambush: Place a cup/bucket of water above a half opened door.
  • Salty Surprise: Put salt on their tooth brush
  • Leave ‘Em Hangin’: While someone you know (WELL!) is in the shower, sneak in and steal their clothes and towel!

Be careful and enjoy April Fools!!

Top 10 Twitter Trends of 2011

The TOP 10 Twitter Trends for Twitter in 2011 are:

  1. Justin Bieber
  2. Soccer/Football
  3. Lady Gaga
  4. NBA
  5. Jonas Brothers
  6. Christmas
  7. Super Junior
  8. Britney Spears
  9. Japan Earthquake
  10. One Direction

It is really interesting to look back and see what was popular. Some come as a surprise, some are quite shocking. Personally, I would not have guessed Britney Spears would have made the Top 10, not even the Top 100. However, it made me do some quick research - apparently she is making a comeback? KIDDING!

Super Junior was the other question mark, after doing a quick google search I was able to find out that it is a 9 member boy band in Japan, referred to as the Super Show. Interesting….

Twitter and other Social Media outlets, such as Facebook, Google+, etc. are so vital to spread word and create interest. A very influential tool, as we saw with #Kony12.

Remember that someone is always listening, someone is constantly reading, and a tweet (yes, all 140 characters) can be interpreted incorrectly. Be careful what you say!

Below is an example of a small time tweet gone horribly wrong. Read article for full story!

Twitter Statistics

Want to know some of your Twitter Statistics?

Go here:

http://tweetstats.com

The above graph is one of the graphs you will be given (Tweets per Day). There are several that you can choose from, some are really interesting to analyze. Also provided is a WORDLE picture, which is a bunch of key words (that you tend to use) jumbled together to make a collage appearance.

The wait time to get your statistics vary, depending on how many people are accessing the site at the same time. The creator is Damon Cortesi (@DACORT) and he is in the process of selling the company (He has a new venture that he is working on) - so I suggest that if you are interested in finding out:

- Daily Tweets (# of tweets per day of the week)

- Tweet Density (What time of day you send tweets)

- Aggregate Daily/Weekly Tweets

- and MUCH more

DO IT NOW!

There is no timeline on the sale of ‘TweetStats’ but you would hate to miss out! Simply go to the url and sign in through an active twitter account!

Enjoy!

Stop and Hear the Music!

What do we notice when we walk around a city? Or more importantly, what DON’T we notice?

This 2007 video shows a famous musician, Joshua Bell, playing a $3.5 million violin in a dingy subway stop. He played for 45minutes, made $32, and got completely ignored by the majority of people. This social experiment was to show how we may not appreciate, or even notice, true beauty or talent depending on our surroundings. Sounds simple enough, and quite frankly, it makes sense - who in their right mind is going to notice a famous violist at first glance? :(unless you are a classical music fanatic)

This social experiment, carried out by the The Washington Post, is important on so many levels. As society, we need to understand that we are not experiencing all that we can experience. Most importantly, this gives marketers and advertisers great insight into what will and what will not attract attention. You only have 2 or 3 seconds TOPS to get someone commuting to work to stop, look, and listen/read.

What can you find? Would you have noticed Joshua Bell? I definitely wouldn’t have - however, assuming a $3.5 million violin looks like a $3.5 million violin, that could have caught my eye!
